More importance being put on boat inspections with threat of quagga mussels

JACKSON, Wyo. (KIFI) - Quagga mussels were discovered last year around Twin Falls in the Snake River system. Massive precautions have been used ever since to ensure the safety of the river ecosystem. The thought of an invasive species looms across the region and that Snake River system does lead up into Wyoming.

We talked with Wyoming Game & Fish. They say they haven't seen an hints of any invasive species whatsoever including quagga mussels, yet they are taking precautions themselves to make sure this does not spread. They are putting more of their staff devoted to checking boat inspections, the best way to hinder the spread of an invasive species.

When going to a boat inspection, we want to make sure that we look at the inside and outside of the boat. We want the boat to be completely clean of everything on the outside. There needs to not be any standing water on the inside of the boat that could bring in new critters into a new territory.
