Appeals court upholds injunction blocking Idaho law banning transgender care for minors
BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) - An Idaho State ban on gender affirming care for transgender minors is being blocked once again from going into action.
This time by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
They upheld a lower court’s ruling blocking enforcement of the law while a lawsuit makes it way through the courts.
The law would have placed medical professionals who provide such care for transgender people under the age of 18 at risk of fines up to $5,00 and a felony conviction, resulting in up to 10 years in prison.
Idaho Governor Brad Little signed the vulnerable child protection act into law in April.
The law was initially set to take effect on Jan. 1, but the families of two transgender teenagers in the state filed a lawsuit challenging the ban.
