Chukars overcome Boise with nine-run surge over three innings

The Idaho Falls Chukars defeated Boise Thursday night behind a nine-run surge over the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, improving to 8-7 in the Highway Series.

The game was scoreless through the early innings as both teams flashed strong defense. Boise broke through in the fourth when Ethan Underwood doubled off the right-field wall and later scored on a wild pitch to give Boise a 1-0 lead.

Chukars Pitcher Mason Pennington kept the Hawks at bay the rest of his start, going 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and just 2 runs. He also punched out 4 Boise batters.

Idaho Falls answered Boise’s one run in the 4th with 6 runs in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, and 2 in the 7th, pulling well ahead to secure the win.

Sam Canton went 3-for-4 at the dish for Idaho Falls with a home run and 4 RBI. Parker Lester also went 3-for-4, powering a solo home run out of the yard in the second inning. Also of note, Tyler Wyatt extended his hitting streak to 26 games with an infield single in the eighth inning.

The Chukars now sit a half-game back of Boise and three games back of Missoula in the second-half standings of the Pioneer League season.
