Skyline Grizzlies beat Bonneville Bees 18-14 in rainy season opener

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) – The Skyline Grizzlies earned a rain-soaked 4-point victory over the Bonneville Bees at Thunder Stadium Friday night.

Bonneville entered the game looking to secure its first victory against Skyline since 2022. Although the Bees took a second quarter lead, Skyline fought back to claim the win in wet conditions.

Early defensive plays set the tone on both sides. On Skyline's opening drive, senior Dallas Jacobsen tackled Caden Cruz on third down to force a punt. Bonneville attempted to convert on fourth down on its initial possession, but Trevyn Phillip stopped the play in coverage to force a turnover on downs.

Skyline took the early lead on its next drive. Facing third down, quarterback John Giannini threw toward Sam Demott in the corner of the end zone, but Giannini and Demott were unable to connect, bringing up 4th down. Demott then kicked a field goal to give Skyline a 3-0 lead.

Bonneville responded later in the 2nd quarter when quarterback Jaxton Briggs threw a long pass down the sideline to Kemper Allen for significant yardage. A few plays later in the red zone, Briggs connected with senior Kaine Rodriguez made a spectacular diving catch in the back corner of the end zone for a touchdown. Following a missed extra point, Bonneville took a 6-3 lead.

Skyline rallied in the wet conditions to claim a narrow victory, winning 18-14 in the opening contest of the season.
