Madison Bobcats defeat Capital Eagles 21-14 in playoff victory

REXBURG, Idaho (KIFI) – The Madison Bobcats are moving on to the next round of the 6A state playoffs after defeating the Capital Eagles 21-14 in Rexburg Friday night. Madison took a 14-7 lead into halftime before tacking on 7 more in the second half to secure the win.

Capital struck first in this game when QB Quincey Clay connected with University of Idaho commit Elliot Schrack. Schrack sustained a big hit in the end zone while making the catch, drawing a 15-yard penalty on Madison that was enforced on the kickoff. That ensuing kickoff was booted for a touchback.

On the very first play of Madison's responding drive, the Bobcats found paydirt. Brennen Dredge took a handoff for an 80-yard touchdown to tie the game right back up. Later in the first quarter, Madison took the lead.

On a drive that ended up in the red zone, Jace Johnson lined up in the shotgun, took the snap, and ran for the pylon, scoring the go ahead touchdown. That gave Madison a 14-7 lead.

Capital tied the game at 14 a side in the second half, and Madison was able to take the lead with just over 2 minutes left in the contest. They will play Rigby in a rematch of the regular-season finale next weekend.
