Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock says Justin Fuente is out as the Hokies’ football coach. The AD had told Fuente in a meeting last Wednesday that his return next year was far from certain. Fuente decided not to wait around. Babcock says the Fuente “wanted to move on” immediately so Tuesday the school dismissed Fuente and named defensive line coach J.C. Price the interim coach for the last two regular season games. Fuente and the school agreed to reduce Virginia Tech’s contract buyout obligation to him from $10 million to $8.75 million. The school would have owed Fuente $10 million if he was fired before mid-December and $7.5 million had he stayed past mid-December.
