Idaho Falls’ Merit Jones named Gatorade Idaho Baseball Player of the Year

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - For the second consecutive year, an Idaho Falls Tiger is the Idaho Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year, as Merit Jones was announced as this year's winner on Friday.

Jones keeps the award in Idaho Falls after Jaxon Sorenson earned the honor in 2021.

Merit batted over .400 this season with six home runs and 27 RBI. The Utah commit was even better on the mound, going 9-0 with a 1.27 ERA and 73 strikeouts in just 55.2 innings pitched.

Jones is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year Award, which will be announced later in June.

Merit was featured as our Athlete of the Week in early April, and that story is available in the sports section on our website.
