Hot for Thursday afternoon with a few thunderstorms; stormy weather late Friday

Monsoon moisture moving across Eastern Idaho will bring continued thunderstorm activity and high temperatures before a cold front drops temperatures into the 70s this weekend. Highs in the Snake River Plain will reach the lower 90s on Thursday before cooler weather and widespread rainfall arrive.

The weather pattern will shift as an area of low pressure moves southward from Canada into the region. The system will funnel Pacific moisture into our region, bringing measurable rainfall.

High temperatures in the Snake River Plain will reach the lower 90s on Thursday with scattered thunderstorms expected during the afternoon and evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Showers and thunderstorms will remain possible through Thursday night, with low temperatures in the upper 50s.

On Friday, skies will be mostly cloudy with a high temperature near 81°. Winds of 10 mph will turn west-southwest in the afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 25 mph. Precipitation chances increase to 70% Friday night, with showers becoming likely after 9 p.m. Low temperatures Friday night will drop to around 56 degrees, accompanied by south winds of 10 mph and gusts up to 20 mph.

Widespread, wet thunderstorm activity is expected on Saturday, bringing a 50% chance of precipitation and a high temperature near 77° under partly sunny skies. Thunderstorms remain possible after noon. On Sunday, high temperatures will drop to near 73° under partly sunny skies, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon.
