First Alert Weather Days, stormy weekend ahead; flood watch

Breezy conditions for Friday evening, ahead of low pressure from the northwest and moisture from the south. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for eastern Idaho, with expected rainfall amounts reaching over an inch.

For Saturday, there is a chance of rain and thunderstorms. Partly to mostly cloudy skies, with high temperatures reaching the upper 60’s. Winds will be from the south-southwest around 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 50%.

For Saturday night, we have scattered rain and thunderstorms. Overnight low temperatures will reach the lower 40’s for the Snake River Plain. The chance of precipitation is 90%.

For Sunday we’ll see rain with cloudy skies, with the chance of precipitation is 100%. Winds will be around 10 mph, with gusts around 20 mph. Overnight lows will drop to the mid to upper 30’s for the Snake River Plain. We’ll see scattered rain and snow overnight.

On Monday, more rain is likely, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high temperature near 55°. The chance of precipitation is 70%.

The National Weather Service has issued the following Flood Advisory:

FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Storm total rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches are possible across the area with localized 3 inches possible in spots, especially in the higher terrain of the eastern highlands. From Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. ADDITIONAL DETAILS…A prolonged period of rainfall is expected across eastern Idaho throughout the weekend which could lead to some flooding across parts of the advised area. An upper low moving into the Pacific Northwest will combine with tropical moisture from Tropical Cyclone Rachel to usher in a cooler, wetter weather pattern across eastern Idaho.
