Rexburg launches “Centennial” parks plan

As part of its “Parks Centennial Plan,” the city of Rexburg is working to preserve and enhance recreational opportunities in the community.

Early this summer, the city cut down some sickly trees in Porter Park, which marks its 100 year anniversary in 2029.

Tuesday, Rocky Mountain Power Foundation awarded the city a $7,000 grant to begin to replace those birch trees. It is the first project under the new Centennial Plan.

“This grant from Rocky Mountain Power will be a great help for our Parks Centennial,” says Mayor Jerry Merrill. “We hope to work with community members and local institutions to build and enhance our parks.”

The city is also asking community members to donate. “We are hoping to raise $30,000 by the spring of 2020,” Merrill explained.

And, the Parks Centennial Committee wants to raise over $400,000 through 2029. You can learn more about that plan here.
