Family escapes Fort Hall house fire

Fire caused extensive damage to a home at 675 North Treaty Highway in Fort Hall Thursday.

The Fort Hall Fire Department was called at approximately 4 p.m. to find fire coming from the front window of the home, extending onto the porch and the roof.

With assistance from the Blackfoot Fire Department, firefighters attempted to enter the house but had to retreat because the floor began to fail.

It took 40 minutes to contain the fire, but crews stayed on the scene until 9 p.m. as the State Fire Marshal and Fort Hall Police investigated the fire. The cause has not been determined.

Unspecified family pets were killed in the fire.
