Bigfoot enthusiast gather for Sasquatch Prints in the Park

Is it scientific research or just folklore? That’s the question being asked at Sasquatch Prints in the Park in Pocatello. The two-day event kicked off this morning at upper Ross Park.

Like-minded Sasquatch enthusiasts gathered at the Bannock County Historical Museum to hear the latest research into finding evidence for Bigfoot.

In addition to the folklore, literature and of course, the T-shirts, there were seminars to learn about some of today’s most compelling evidence.

Dr. Jeff Meldrum is among several well-known researchers who believe there is not only a possibility of Bigfoot but that its existence is biologically logical.

“As an educator myself, this event is an opportunity to inform the public about my interest as to what I see as a very solid scientific question,” Meldrum said.

The question is whether another species branched off of human evolution thousands of years ago and now lives on today.

Another person interested in answering that question is Scot Voilette, a researcher at Blue Mountain Bigfoot in Oregon. He’s researched Bigfoot legends through Native American culture.

“Almost every tribe in the nation has a Bigfoot legend,” Voilette said. “There’s a basis in fact in every legend, so I started doing some research into this and started to find other evidence that proved to me that these things are real.”

For many who attended the event, the folklore is half the fun. The two-day event will continue Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
