Local airports get a slice of airport improvement funds
Several Idaho airports will receive Federal Aviation Administration grants for infrastructure improvements. Overall, Idaho will receive $9.6 million.
“This significant investment in airport improvements in Idaho will fund construction and rehabilitation projects that will help maintain high levels of safety in U.S. aviation,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.
Idaho Falls Regional Airport was awarded two grants. One, for $1,154,191 will be used to help modify the terminal building and purchase snow removal equipment. The second grant, for $1,938,822 will be used to reconstruct the runway and build a taxiway.
Blackfoot/McCarley Field will receive $270,000 to purchase land for runway approaches.
Driggs’ Reed Memorial Airport will receive $716,743 to help rebuild the runway lighting system.
The Preston Airport will receive $300,000 to extend and rebuild the runway, install runway lighting, and build a taxiway.
Also receiving funding were the Hailey Friedman Memorial Airport, the Twin Falls’ Joslin Field, Sandpoint Airport, Priest River Airport, and the Caldwell Industrial Airport.
According to FAA, the construction and equipment supported by the grants will enhance safety and capacity while promoting economic growth in each region.
Airports receive a share of Airport Improvement Program funding each year based on activity levels and project needs.
