State museum seeks items featuring eastern Idaho women

The Idaho State Museum in Boise is working to add artifacts to the State Historical Society’s permanent collection. A new, temporary exhibit, will feature trail-blazing Idaho women.

Museum curators said they hope to showcase women who have had an impact on the state in a broad way. For example, they are seeking items tied to important events in state industry, culture, arts, and politics. They are also interested in items that relate to the everyday lives of Idaho women.

In particular, curators are seeking artifacts following women with ties to eastern Idaho. For example, they are following the lives of women who broke new ground in politics, business, art, sports, activism and other fields. They’re also interested in women who broke new ground at the Idaho National Laboratory and, specifically, Idaho Purce, a Pocatello woman who had a huge impact on human rights, civil rights, and was an HIV/AIDS activist.

The exhibit is scheduled to open in 2020, marking the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote.
