SALINAS, California (KSBW) — A rescue was successfully carried out by H=70, of CHP – Coastal Division Air Operations, after they were requested by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and Cal Fire to assist in rescuing a person who was trapped in the Salinas River.

The rescued man became trapped after his car was washed away by the rising river. Fortunately he was able to escape and make it to an island in the middle of the flooded Salinas River. H-70 quickly responded and was able to locate the individual stranded on the island.

The CHP helicopter crew lowered a rescuer to assist the individual and prepare him for hoisting. The rescue team performed a “Double Pick” technique, lifting both the rescuer and the stranded person at the same time. They were then hoisted to a nearby lot, where they were safely lowered to the ground.

The rescued man was shaken but uninjured, and the rescue team was able to safely transport him to safety.
