Reed’s Dairy works to rebound after devastating fire

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Reed's Dairy in Idaho Falls is working to rebound after a devastating fire last week.

The cause is still under investigation with the damages estimated to be in the millions. Reed's Dairy barn, which stood for five generations, is considered a total loss.

Local News 8 was the first on the scene and to ask Allan Reed where the family business will go from here.

The former milk barn had been transformed into a processing area where Reed's Dairy produced their milk, cheese and ice cream products.

When we talked with Allan Reed last Thursday, he said they'd have to make a game plan on how they'd move forward without the processing building.

On Monday he told Local News 8 they'll be fully operational in about a week thanks to the community and members of the dairy industry in Washington, Utah and Idaho.

"We have a company down in Salt Lake just going to make our ice cream mix according to our formula," Reed said. "It's going to be our own formula. And then we have a location up in Rexburg. Carrie Ann's have been very kind and going to let us use some of their manufacturing area to make ice cream. So by the end of the week, we're going to pretty much have all of our products back in in in our stores and and full operation."

Reed also expressed his gratitude for "the outpouring support from the entire community" and to the Idaho Falls first responders "who worked in difficult conditions" to contain the fire.

He adds Reed's insurance agents and fire investigators are on their way to Idaho Falls to investigate the cause of the fire. Reed's Dairy should have that information by the end of the week.
