How the fire at Reed’s Dairy was discovered
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - More details about last week's fire at Reed's Dairy are being released.
The Idaho Falls Fire Department and Reed's Dairy's insurance company have been investigating, but the cause of the fire is still unknown.
However, CEO Alan Reed shared how the fire was discovered and what those first moments after the blaze started were like.
"I was down the road about a quarter of a mile. I actually just sat down to get my haircut when when I got the phone call and, you know, I so I hopped out and and hustled right back here," he said.
"We had some guys in the in the building working where we actually weren't processing dairy products at the time. We were doing some improvements with some equipment and a couple of of our guys that work in the plant. All of a sudden they started to smell smoke. And so they tracked it back to a room where they changed their clothes and and opened the door, and there was flames in there," Reed said.
"They hollered at everybody to get out of the building. That was that was my biggest relief was when I ran around the building, and they were all standing outside. But it just it went so fast that they just got out. They actually thought, 'well, we'll try to put it out,' but it was going too fast," he said.
The community continues to come together to show its support for Reed's Dairy. A special gift will be given to the Reed family from the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. You can view more on that HERE.
