Rexburg Pride announces sixth annual event at Porter Park

KIFI

REXBURG, Idaho (KIFI) — Rexburg Pride is preparing to return to Porter Park later this month for its sixth annual community celebration.

According to Rexburg Pride, the event is designed to bring people together promoting unity and community.

"Our activities during the Rexburg Pride Festival focus on building relationships and fostering a sense of community," Activity Director Lorene Nance said. "Rexburg prides itself on being 'America's Family Community' and we're excited to contribute to that spirit by creating a space with fun activities where all families and individuals feel welcome and celebrated."

In addition to live performances, the event will include community art projects, a unity walk around the park and interactive activities for attendees.

According to organizers, attendance has consistently ranged between 1,000 and 1,500 people each year.

Event organizers say they coordinate with city officials annually and have partnered with Gem State Security to help provide a safe experience for attendees.

"Pride is, of course, a celebration," Rexburg Pride Director Annalisa Waite said. "But it is also an opportunity; it is a chance to connect people to resources, it is a chance to educate, it's a chance to build community, and it is a chance for allies to show up for their friends, family members and neighbors and say, 'we're with you.'"

Volunteers and vendors interested in participating can register through the Rexburg Pride website.

The event is scheduled for June 20 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Porter Park and will feature live entertainment, vendors, food, local businesses, nonprofits and family-friendly activities.
