GARDEN CITY, Utah (KIFI) — A 17-year-old Arizona boy drowned while paddleboarding at Bear Lake on Saturday.

Rescue crews responded to a call at 3:26 PM at Ideal Beach. The boy reportedly fell off his paddleboard and became separated from it. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

While the boy's body was recovered by the responders, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

"This is a tragic and unfortunate circumstance," said the Utah Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division. The department also extended its condolences to the boy's family and friends.

"This incident remains under investigation at this time," they continued. "We would like to thank the Garden City EMS, and the Rich County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue and Bear Lake County (Idaho) Emergency Services for their responses to this incident."
