John Giannini named All-American Cleaning & Restoration student-athlete of the week after Skyline victory

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) – Skyline High School quarterback John Giannini led the Grizzlies to a 35-24 victory over the Century Diamondbacks last Friday. Following his performance, Giannini is being named the All-American Cleaning and Restoration Student-Athlete of the Week.

Skyline fell behind 7-0 early in the contest before finding its rhythm in the second quarter. Giannini noted that the squad rallied after overcoming its initial slow start.

“We started off a little bit slow, but then once we scored, we started picking it up,” Giannini said. “I got confidence in all of our guys, and we just started picking it up.”

The Grizz turned the game around in the second quarter when Riley Stewart punched in a touchdown on a short-yardage run to get Skyline on the board. Giannini said that touchdown sparked the offense.

“As soon as we scored that first touchdown, it was like we control the game from here and that's what I told our offense,” Giannini said. “Once we scored, I was like, we control the game from here on out.”

Giannini finished the game completing 15 of 21 passes for 328 yards and two passing touchdowns, while also adding one rushing touchdown. He emphasized the importance of contributing both through the air and on the ground.

“Sometimes people don't think quarterbacks should run as much, but I love to run the ball... you've got to be able to run and throw the ball every game,” Giannini said.

He also credited his teammates for supporting his dual-threat role on the field. “I'm nothing without my teammates, that's for sure,” Giannini said. “I got to have a good O-line, good wide receiver corps, and we do have it this year, so I'm grateful for that.”

Through the team's first two games of the season, Giannini noted progress in execution and team chemistry. “I feel like all of us have the experience and we're putting together like the mental side of it,” Giannini said. “And I think we're getting it down. And just being on the same page with guys is so important. And when we have that down, we score a lot.”

Looking ahead, Giannini noted that the team remains focused on growing and getting better every week. “Well, there's always something to learn. No matter win or loss, there's always something to learn,” Giannini said. “So I think just picking up those things that we worked on this week, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they improve this week.”
