LDS church congratulates Obama

Top leaders in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are congratulating President Barack Obama for winning a second term, and urging Americans to pray for him.

The Mormon church’s First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles also said they commended Mitt Romney for engaging in the high levels of the democratic process, and said they wished him and his family success in the future.

The LDS leaders’ statement Tuesday didn’t mention that Romney was a member of the church.

The congratulation memo says it’s now time for Americans to come together after a long campaign. Church leaders encouraged prayer for the president, his administration, and the new Congress as they navigate “difficult and turbulent times.”
