Shelley Woman Dies in 3-Car Crash

A deadly traffic accident occurred Tuesday evening near York Exchange south of the Budweiser plant at Highway 91 and 65th.

Mary C. McHugh, 59, of Shelley died on scene.

Christine M. Stankiewicz, age 34, of Shelley and a minor child were taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls where they were treated and released.

Stankiewicz was driving north on US 91 in a 2003 Saturn Vue with McHugh as a passenger.

Julie A. Stauffer, age 48, of Idaho Falls was driving west on W 65th S Road in a 2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup.

Both vehicles entered the intersection and collided. The Saturn Vue then slid into a 2011 Toyota Sienna Van, which was stopped at the southbound light on US91. The driver of the van– Tahnee M. Wheeler, age 34, of Shelley– and her two children were not taken to the hospital.

The crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police. They would like you to call ISP Dispatch at (208) 525-7277 if you think you have any information on the crash.

Idaho State Police was assisted by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, the Idaho Falls Fire Department and Idaho Falls Police Department.
