Police arrest 2 after following tracks

Tracks in the snow led to car burglary arrests once again in Idaho Falls.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on Thursday, a police officer found fresh tire tracks in the snow in the Carriagegate neighborhood. The vehicle that created these tracks had been on the wrong side of the road and had drifted around corners. The officer found and stopped a Chevy Blazer in the area that created the tracks. A 17-year-old boy and Jonathan Smith, 18, were in the Blazer.

Officers followed the Blazer’s tracks back through the neighborhood and found shoe prints from the Blazer to at least 22 parked cars in the area. At least three of the parked cars had been entered and had there contents strewn about. No property was reported missing from the cars.

Officers said they found Smith had a small amount of marijuana.
Smith was arrested and booked in the Bonneville County Jail on charges of burglary, possession of marijuana and encouraging violations of the Youth Rehabilitation Act.

The 17-year-old was arrested and booked into the 3-B Detention Center on a charge of burglary and cited for curfew violation.

Earlier this week, Idaho Falls police following footprints going from car to car on Tabor Avenue made another burglary arrest.
