KISSIMMEE, Florida (WESH) — All slingshot rides in Florida have been closed after two teenagers were rescued Thursday night from the slingshot ride near Old Town in Kissimmee.
The Florida Department of Agriculture said there are four Slingshot rides in the state, in Kissimmee, Orlando, Daytona Beach and Panama City Beach. Officials said all four have been closed by the department as a precaution, while the manufacturer conducts an investigation.
Officials said they will remain closed until the department consults with the manufacturer and will only reopen once the state bureau conducts a subsequent inspection.
Inspection records from the department of agriculture show that the ride in Kissimmee was last inspected on March 19 and no issues were identified.
Osceola County Fire Rescue officials said the teens are OK after being stuck on the ride for nearly two hours.
Officials said the teens were suspended between 30 to 40 feet above the ground after one of the stabilizer cables on the Slingshot ride broke.
Fire officials say when that cable breaks or malfunctions, the ride does not fully lower as a safety precaution.
The teens did not require medical attention.
