District says it had to report ex-coach’s Facebook photo

School District 25 is now speaking out about the firing of the former Pocatello High School girl’s basketball coach.

Laraine Cook was fired after a photograph appeared on Facebook showing her boyfriend touching her chest.

But now the district is saying it had a legal obligation to report the photo. Officials said under the Code of Ethics for the Idaho Professional Educators, anyone with a teaching certificate is require to report a “possible violation” of the code of ethics.

In other words, reporting the photo means the district was complying with the code.

But what happens to Cook and her teaching certificate is up to the Professional Standards Commission.

The district said reporting the possible violation does not mean they are wanting the person they are reporting to be punished.
