Walmart plans for new store in Rexburg
Walmart confirmed Thursday night, it plans to build a new store in Rexburg.
Rachel Wall, senior manager of communications at Walmart, issued the following statement regarding the new store.
“We are pleased to announce that yesterday we submitted an application to the City of Rexburg to rezone and utilize the plot at North Second East and East Moody Road to relocate our existing store and provide our customers and associates with a modern one-stop-shopping location to better serve the growing community.
“Over the coming year our goal is to work with the city to move forward with plans for the upgraded and relocated store.
“The planned store, anticipated to open in 2016, will offer full-service grocery, vision center, tire and lube express center, drive-thru pharmacy, bakery, traditional general merchandise including apparel and electronics within 185,000 square feet.
“Our approximately 200 Rexburg associates will be offered a transfer and we will hire for about 100 additional positions closer to opening.
“We look forward to working with the city, serving our Rexburg customers and providing new opportunities for our local associates.
We expect to market and sell the current space at 530 N. Second East to make way for another business or retail use.”
