Land Use Commission approves Pocatello/Chubbuck event center plan

The Pocatello/Chubbuck Auditorium District presented its final plan to the Chubbuck Land Use Commission Tuesday night. The next step will be for the Chubbuck City Council to vote on it at the Feb. 11 meeting.

Staff presented the layout for the 40,000 square foot event center, the surround parking area and planned subdivision to fill up the empty fields on the new Knudsen Blvd. in Chubbuck.

A few residents of Linden St. spoke up at the meeting to express concerns about making Linden a through street for the parking lot of the event center, as well as concerns about what will separate the event center property and their homes.

There was also some discussion about the nearby canal that will be diverted. Residents were concerned about the water they get for irrigation.

Raul Cano, Executive Director of the Auditorium District group, said they will be working closely with neighbors to ensure this project stays true to its purpose: bring visitors to the area and growing and uniting the Pocatello/Chubbuck communities.

“Right now we’re looking at May before we get actual shovels in the ground,” Cano said. “But that is still somewhat up in the air as we still have a few details to figure out.”

The Chubbuck City Council is set to approve the plan for the event center at their next meeting, Tues. Feb. 11 at 7:00 p.m.
