Gas prices rise with temperature
AAA predicts that Idaho gas prices will start to rise this month, but the hike won’t be as large as last year’s.
“Obviously I look to see where the best deal is when I’m traveling through town, but when it comes to selecting, it’s just whichever one I’m closest to that is the cheapest,” said Idaho Falls Resident Bernie Dieker. “Anytime I can get a tank under $50, it’s great.”
The state’s average gas price is $3.16, which AAA’s Director of Public Affairs Dave Carlson said is sure to rise.
“We expect prices to range from $3.55 to $3.85 for the U.S. in the next two months or so,” said Carlson.
The reason for this price hike is due to refinery maintenance that the change of season brings. Refineries also have to swap out winter-grade gas for summer-grade gasoline. With all these factors comes a price increase, but Carlson said even though prices will rise, they will not be as variable as last year’s numbers.
