Winds blast through eastern Idaho

A vigorous cold front has swept through the region, leaving strong winds and a convergence zone snow event in the Snake River Plain and the Eastern Highlands.

A convergence zone usually forms during a frontal passage over the region. The winds at different directions will push air together and create a slow moving storm that continues to spin back into itself.

The convergence zone is expected to relax over the region around sunset.

Throughout eastern Idaho, the sustained wind speed was 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph.

ThePerrine Bridge and Hansen Bridge in Southern Idaho are closed due to high winds and toppled semi-trucks

Winds are also expected to relax a bit overnight, but windy conditions will be back for Tuesday.

There have beenvarious alerts/warnings from the National Weather Service.

High Wind Warnings will last until 9pm on Monday.
