Law enforcement agents honored for duty
Idaho law enforcement agents received recognition for going above and beyond during routine traffic stops.
Idaho State Trooper Vance Cox and Deputy Jason Stewart with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office were presented the “Looking Beyond the Traffic Stop” award.
The award is given to officers who help stop burglaries, drug trafficking and other crimes through effective questioning and observation during traffic stops.
“I was just doing my job. It’s our job to make sure the community is safe,” said Cox.
Cox stopped a U-haul in March on U.S. Highway 20 near Idaho Falls. While questioning the driver he called for assistance from Stewart and his K-9, Ringo. They found 53 pounds of methamphetamine and 27 pounds of cocaine. ISP District 6 Captain Danny Bunderson said this is one of the largest drug seizures in Idaho’s history.
“Vance Cox just has a knack when it comes to human behavior,” said Bunderson. “Those drugs would have ended up in our schools and our neighborhoods.”
