Bonneville County Fair overcrowded by submissions

Many say the Bonneville County Fair is the best kept secret, but this year the 4-H program had more than 160 participants and 325 animal submissions.

“I’m pretty excited that the barns are so full this year,” said Bonneville County 4-H educator Brandy Kay.

The fair has been running out of room fast as more kids and teens, like Ty Banard, join the program.

“We’re about to pop out of the barn, we’ve got so many animals. We need new fairgrounds,” said Banard.

Program leaders said expanded fair grounds would be a viable option, if numbers continue to increase., but the process wouldn’t be easy. The program is done trough both Bonneville County and the University of Idaho extension. Kay said this isn’t something that would take place next year.

Increased numbers is exciting for the agency as teens learn life skills. The 4-H program work to teach kids how responsibility, communication and work ethics through caring for livestock. The fair also showcases science camp, photography training and power point presentation workshops.

The fair kicked off Aug. 1, but will include the following events until Aug. 9:

3 p.m. Livestock Judging Clinic

4 p.m. Water Fight on the Lawn (following the livestock judging clinic)

6 p.m. County Fair Family Potluck and Raffle

8 p.m.-10 p.m Parking Lot Dance

9 a.m Round Robin Contest -Show Ring

12 p.m. Livestock Judging Contest -Show Ring

2 p.m. Style Revue- Jack Hamilton Building

3 p.m.Pee Wee Parade

6 p.m. Buyers BBQ

7 p.m. Market Animal Sale- Pavilion
