PMC trauma center awarded high marks
The Portneuf Medical Center has a new reason to brag, and this time, the reason is right behind the doors of the E.R.
On Monday afternoon PMC doctors said the hospital is now the leading trauma center in southeast Idaho, after several review committees labeled the center with a level-two verification.
PMC trauma center director Dr. Drew McRoberts said this verification means the hospital has met all of the essential criteria when it comes to improved patient care.
“This is the first time we have been verified as a level two trauma center, and 15 years ago we were identified as a level three,” McRoberts said. “But then we set about improving care, adding resources and physicians, and now we are at the point where we can achieve the level two status.”
He said the hospital averages more than one trauma case every day, all year long, with the E.R. constantly filled with patients.
“It is really our obligation to the community to take good care of people when they get injured, and a lot of people who get injured around here are injured in either motor vehicle crashes or in some sort of recreational endeavor,” McRoberts also pointed-out.
He said this past March, lawmakers passed a time-sensitive emergencies legislation where Idaho now has a statewide trauma system and even with that, McRoberts said PMC still continues to be the leading trauma center in the region.
