Blackfoot teacher wins $100,000 for school

A Blackfoot elementary school has a lot to celebrate.

A teacher from IT Stoddard won a $100,000 grant. It’s part of Farmer’s Insurance Thank a Million Teachers program.

The whole thing was a huge surprise. The teacher, Melissa Hunt, had no idea going into the assembly she had won. The entire gym erupted with applause when it was announced. The students were on their feet in seconds, chanting for their teacher.

That reaction brought Hunt to tears.

“I work with the most amazing teachers and incredible students. They support everything we do and that felt pretty good. To see then cheering, but they were such a part of this too, so I know it felt like a win to them too,” said Melissa Hunt the winning teacher.

Melissa Hunt is one of five national winners.

She wrote a proposal and even made YouTube videos to encourage people to vote.

That money will be used to bring more technology to the classrooms.
