Marshall Public Library closes for inventory

Marshall Public Library patrons know the library is closed for inventory, but what does that entail?

Associate Director Trina Bonman said this inventory hasn’t been done for 10 years. She said the process involves taking all material the library possesses – about 300,000 books, magazines and resources – and scanning them into the system.

She said it’s important for the staff members to physically see what they have to update the system with what they don’t have, what is damaged and needing replacement, and what is outdated and needs updating.

“We found a citation manual, I think from 1989,” said Bonman. “We probably don’t need to keep that. I doubt it’s relevant anymore, so we can delete that and go, OK maybe we should get a brand new citation guide.”

The library is set to reopen at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15.
