Wednesday is Mel Richardson Day in Ammon

Ammon will honor a recently deceased former mayor Wednesday.

According to a proclamation from current Mayor Dana Kirkham, Wednesday will be Mel Richardson Day. Kirkham said this is in “recognition of his devoted, diligent, kind and loving service to the residents of the City of Ammon.”

Richardson, who died Thursday, served on the City Council and as mayor from 1966 to 1969. In addition, he served in the Idaho House and Senate for 16 years, beginning in 1988.

He was also known throughout the area as a radio and television broadcaster and hosted various local programs, according to his obituary.

Flags at City Hall will be flown at half staff.
