Update: Man arrested in deadly Afton shooting

One person was killed and another person hurt in a shooting in Afton, Wyoming, on Sunday.

Early in the morning, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office got a call of a shooting at an apartment above a business on the 400 block of Washington Street.

Officers found the two victims had been shot with a semi-automatic handgun.

The sheriff’s office identified the deceased victim as Tony Hansen, 22, of Afton. Melanie Pumphrey, 21, of Alpine, was transported to Star Valley Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

The suspect, Wade Richard Farrow, 26, of Afton, was arrested at the apartment.

Sheriff Shane Johnson said alcohol was involved, and the shooting was sparked by an altercation.

“We have a safe community, but we’re not immune to these types of things,” said Johnson. ” But yeah, it is out of character for our community.”

The Sheriff’s Office was flooded with calls Monday, but Johnson said the public is safe with the suspect in custody.

“We have family and friends that are trying to deal with what’s happened here, and this a fairly tight-knit community,” said Johnson.
