Egin-Hamer Area Closure to take effect Jan. 1

Idaho Fish and Game is reminding the public the Egin-Hamer Area Closure will take place Jan. 1.

Authorities said closing off nearly 500 square miles of desert between St. Anthony and Dubois protects wintering wildlife, including deer, elk and moose herds.

See the map attached to this article for the closed areas and when they will reopen.

This time around, special emphasis will be placed on keeping vehicles from accessing Red Road within the closure area. Drivers whose vehicles are found beyond the barriers will be cited.

Although airspace is not restricted, pilots are being asked not to harass the wildlife. If you are flying low enough to cause the wildlife to move away, you are flying too low, Fish and Game said.

Authorities are also reminding Brigham Young University-Idaho students the Civil Defense Caves are within the closure area.

For questions on the closure, contact Fish and Game at (208) 525-7290 or the Bureau of Land Management at 523-1012.
