Idaho Senate: Make Craters of the Moon a national park

The Idaho Senate is urging Congress to re-designate Craters of the Moon National Monument as a national park.

Sponsored by Sen. Jeff Siddoway, R-Terreton, the resolution would create the nation’s 60th national park. It would be the first national park located completely within the borders of Idaho. A small sliver of Yellowstone National Park slices into Fremont County.

Siddoway said there would be no change in land use or in management practices including camping, hunting and grazing.

The resolution, which would establish boundaries as they existed prior to November 9, 2000, was sent on to the Idaho House for consideration.
