Basektball star wins Distinguished Student Award

Sicilee Williams sometimes drops by the office of the Ririe School superintendent to practice her Spanish. The superintendent also happens to be her father.

“My dad taught me when I was younger, and I’ve taken the college Spanish class here and all those courses help me,” Williams said.

So what are the pros and cons of being the daughter of the superintendent?

“He knows if I’m ever in trouble or have a bad grade, so I can’t hide anything, but but he also keeps me on top of things and we bond a lot because he’s always around,” Williams said.

One of Williams hobbies is graphic design. She uses that talent to make programs for pageants and plays. She’s also is involved in other extracurricular activities.

“I’ve been part of yearbook, student council, I did drama one year, volleyball, basketball, those type of things,” Williams said.

Basketball is where Williams really stands out. Her team won the district title and took second in state.
She said it was a memorable experience.

“Just the success we saw and the time we spent together as a team,” Williams said. “Each individual team from all four years I’ll remember.”

Williams will graduate with 30 college credits. She took classes through the Idaho Education Network and at the school. School has kept her plenty busy, but Williams said taking time for the extra curricular activities is valuable too.

“It just challenges you and it makes you get out of your comfort zone,” Williams said. “That kind of stuff helps me on the court and it helps me in my classes, so it makes you a better person.”
