Madison Fire Department investigating building fire

On August 21st, at 9:12 pm, Madison Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 128 N. 5200 W. in Madison County west of Rexburg.

Crew arrived to find the building occupied by Mountain Valley Floor Mats, completely engulfed by fire.

The fire was fought defensively from the exterior of the building, focusing on protecting nearby fuel tanks, vehicles and other equipment near the structure.

“The origin and cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation,” said David Davis, Assistant Fire Chief with Madison Fire Department. “The fire occurred after regular operating hours of the business and was called in by a nearby farmer moving pipe.”

Madison Fire Department had four engines and two water tenders respond to the incident and also requested mutual aid from Central Fire District (Jefferson County) who sent one engine and one tender. DL Beck Construction also provided support with a water tender from a nearby construction site. Water was shuttled from City of Rexburg fire hydrants, approximately three miles away, as no municipal water system was available near the fire.

The fire was contained to the building, but the building and all the building’s contents were a total loss, estimated to be near one million dollars.
