District 93 works to solve overcrowding
Members of the community and board members fromSchool District 93 met Thursday evening to discuss overcrowding issues at local schools in Bonneville County.
The past three bond elections have all failed, in some cases by a very slim margin.
A newly formed “District 93 Solutions Group” presented proposals at the meeting. Trustee Jeff Bird led the proposals on behalf of the group.
The proposals the group is looking at include annexing Sandcreek Middle School and adding another middle school to filter into Hillcrest High School. There is the possibility of placing ninth graders with middle schoolers while also adding an additional middle school.
However, the school board may still try to pass another bond.
Assistant SuperintendentScott Woolstenhulme says theprojected total bonding necessary by 2030 to accommodate growth would need to be at $223.8 million.
According to the district , In the years 2015/2016, 1 new high school would need to be built that holds 1500-1800 students.
In 2017/2018, 44 additional elementary classrooms would be needed.
In 2021/2022, A new middle school that holds 1000-1200 students, Plus, 18 additional elementary classrooms would be needed.
In 2025/20261, A new elementary that holds 750 students.
12 additional elementary classrooms &32 additional high school classrooms
In 2027/2028, 2 new elementary schools that hold 750 students.
These numbers are on based growth projection needs.
If the Board of Trustees decides to run another bond, they have until September 14th to file paperwork in order for it to appear on the November ballot.
