2 longtime local businesses close down
If you live in Idaho Falls you most likely visited or heard of Catmull’s Furniture and Farr’s Jewelry.
Both of them have been open in Idaho Falls for more than five decades.
Which makes Catmull’s and Farr’s part of city history.
Owner Dale Catmull remembers dusting furniture at his family business as a young boy.
The memories make it difficult to close it down.
“Like a farmer giving up his farm or something like that, giving up his land,” said Catmull.
About two weeks ago Catmull’s announced it was closing shop.
“It’s almost like the movie ‘It’s a Wonderful life,’ where we had all these people come in,” said Catmull.
After so many years customers become more like friends.
“We love ’em we thank them for all those 50 years of support and it’s just been a great time,” said Catmull.
Catmull and his wife will focus on another business they own.
When they retire, they hope to eventually spend time somewhere down south.
Catmull’s isn’t the only one going out of business.
After 59 years Farr’s Jewelry is too.
“We are sad. All of us are sad,” said Farr’s employee Carolyn Finn.
Now the business will focus on its original store in Ogden, Utah.
“We wish we could make it work but we wish everybody the best. We’re going to miss a lot of people, said Finn.
Both businesses will officially close when all merchandise is sold.
Catmull’s building will be leased out by a local bike shop.
