Local boy donates money to woman fighting cancer
An Arizona woman who is fighting breast cancer received a package for Christmas from Firth, Idaho. The crazy thing, she doesn’t know anyone from Idaho.
It all started with a GoFundMe page to help pay for Colleen Treacy’s medical expenses. When Hagen heard about it, he wanted to do more than donate over the internet. He decided to send her something just before Christmas ; this package wasn’t like any normal Christmas gift. There was some money, a few pictures, and a letter.
“It says, Colleen, My name is Hagen West Allred. I am seven years old, I live in Firth Idaho,” said Treacy.
On the outside Hagen is a typical 7 year old. He loves to hunt with his dad, draw pictures, he’s scared of the monster in his basement, and he can do lots of push-ups.
What many don’t know is Hagen lost one of his best friends to cancer.
“He had cancer. Pancreatic cancer,” Hagen said. “He just couldn’t fight it because of the chemo.”
Rico was a family friend who lost his battle to cancer in August. This loss inspired Hagen to find away to touch other lives with the same battle as Rico.
“I was watching TV and I saw a lemonade stand,” Hagen.
A lemonade stand that would help him raise money to donate to someone battling cancer.
“Little kids have to go through some sort of emotion after they lose somebody,” said Hagen’s mother Emily Allred. “I figured it was his way to kind of process those emotions. So I figured it would be great to support him.”
He raised almost $400 in two hours and decided to give all the money to Colleen Treacy of Arizona.
“You know we had a friend on Facebook who had set up a GoFundMe account for her,” Emily said. “We’ve never met Colleen and her family we just wanted to support somebody else who was going through this battle as well.”
A letter was written and the money was sent.
“This year I lost one of my closest friends to cancer. I decided to raise money to help others like him fight cancer. He lost his fight but I want you to win. I hope this helps,” Treacy said reading Hagen’s letter.
Treacy said the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
“I was feeling really down, I was sick, Chemo was terrible,” Treacy said. “You just feel like you can’t do anymore. I have to do this five more times? There’s just no way. I was sitting here defeated and then this package comes. It was a little miracle. It gave me hope when I really needed it.”
Sometimes everyone needs to be reminded…
“Fight hard. Love Hagen.”
Hagen plans to continue his lemonade stand in hopes to help others fighting cancer.
