Deep, car-damaging potholes popping up around town

It’s that time of year when deep, car-damaging potholes are popping up around town.

“It was good one week, and, like, within the space of the week and a half, that whole road just fell apart,” said Daren Yancey, who owns Eden Valley Food and Firearms along U.S. 91 in Shelley. “Just makes it tough to drive down the road; you gotta pick a different lane, you can’t drive down the middle anymore.”

The Idaho Transportation Department has noticed and started filling the potholes with a gravel and asphalt mix.

“The problem is in the winter time, moisture tends to collect and freeze in the holes, bringing up those new patches,” Bruce King of ITD said. “Our goal, first of all, is safety for our motorists, and then we want to ensure their mobility. So we’re doing all we can to ensure roads are safe and that motorists can get where they want to go, when they want to get there.”
