Man speaks after wife pulls handgun at her husband’s funeral
52-year-old Kimberly Dodge was arrested and booked into Bonneville County jail after pulling a handgun at her estranged husband’s funeral Wednesday afternoon.
Dodge is facing charges of aggravated assault.
Zachery Rish was at the funeral and tells Local News 8/KIDK Eyewitness News it was extremely strange and something no one can prepare for.
Rish also says what Dodge did was disrespectful and overshadowed the real reason everyone was at the church.
“That poor man right now is rolling in his grave because of this,” Rish said.
Dodge became emotional while speaking at the funeral and made a remark that her husband was naked in his casket.
“The bishop told her it was inappropriate so she got mad and went and sat down,” said Rish.
She didn’t let the next speaker have the floor for long.
“I heard her say her husband wanted her to bring the gun to his funeral to shoot the bishop,” Rish said.
Dodge whipped out a .22-caliber handgun.
“You are wack, lady. You’re husband would not tell you to do that,” said Rish.
She proceeded to threaten the bishop and others who were there to mourn her late husband.
“All I could think is am I going to die right now?” Rish said.
It wasn’t long before police arrived to disarm her.
“Something that nobody can ever forget. It’s always going to be there forever with you. Because at a funeral you’re going for your best friend that you guys just lost and to support. Not have to worry about somebody bringing a gun like that,” said Rish.
After police interviewed those at the church the funeral resumed.
Rish hopes the family can heal after such a traumatic event.
