Test your home’s radon levels

Nearly 40 percent of radon-tested homes in the state had unsafe levels, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.

Radon is described as a “silent killer” since you can’t see, smell or taste it. The gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

Steve DeGiulio, the owner of Advantage Home & Property Inspections, said it’s especially important to check your home’s radon levels during the wintertime since it’s when more radon is likely to creep into our homes.

“If it’s frozen (on the ground) to the left or right of your house, then the gas going to come up through your basement, cracks and plumbing fixtures,” he said.
