Update: Bear Lake County circus confirmed to not be a scam
Update 6/22/2016 1:30 pm:The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s office has confirmed after some confusion that a legitimatecircus will be held at the county fairgrounds in Montpelier this weekend.
The circus in question just paid their ground’s fee to the County Fair board. Part of the confusion about the event stems from flyers that had a misprinted phone number. The incorrect number made many assume that the event was bogus.
The event in Jackson is still considered to be a scam and Jackson police are continuing to investigate.
Update 6/22/2016 10:45 am: The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s office has confirmed reports of false circus flyers circulating the county.
According to the sheriff’s office, similar flyers to the ones appearing in Jackson have been left posted at stores in Montpelier. Store owners tell the sheriff’s office that these flyers were left overnight and without permission.
Original Story: The Jackson Police Department is warning locals about a scamming group that is “selling” advance tickets to a circus that doesn’t exist.
A flier has surfaced throughout Jackson informing the public of a Candyland Circus taking place in Jackson at the Fairgrounds on Wednesday, June 22nd. The flier goes on to mention that advanced tickets can be purchased by calling a number on the flier and credit cards are being accepted at the listed number.
Jackson Police say that there is no circus scheduled at the Fairgrounds for June 22nd. They would like as many people as possible to be aware of this scam and are asking people to please pass this information on to friends, family, and associates.
If you notice this flier, please report it promptly to law enforcement personnel.
