Cliff Creek fire now 5 percent contained

Evacuation orders for the Bondurant, Wyoming area have been lifted and homeowners are now being allowed to return to their homes. Highway 189/191 will remain closed. The Granite Creek area evacuation order is still in effect.

The Bridger Teton National Forest offered Granite Creek summertime residents an opportunity to collect possessions Thursday morning. Fire personnel were accompanying homeowners into the fire area.

Granite Creek was evacuated this week because of the active Cliff Creek Fire.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, the Teton Interagency Fire Center said the lightning caused fire had grown to 10,118 acres about 5 miles north of Bondurant.

There are currently 464 firefighters working on the fire including 4 helicopters and 7 fire engines. It is listed at 5 percent contained.

A community meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Hoback Fire Station. Another is planned at 6 p.m. Friday at the Pinedale Administration Building.

The Great Basin incident command team was brought in to manage the fire, which was spreading to the north and east. Evacuation areas include Granite Canyon in Teton County, closure of Highway 189/191 between Hoback Junction and Daniel Junction, and partial evacuations north of Bondurant in Sublette County. In addition, Teton County Emergency Management issued a mandatory evacuation order for the Granite Creek area including Granite Campground, Granite Hot Springs, Jack Pine Summer Homes and the Safari Club.
