Thousands show up to collect free school supplies

It’s back to school time. Today nearly 4,000 people showed up to the Back 2 School Giveaway event in Chubbuck. Parents and their kids got to collect free school supplies, food and clothing.

Monday is the big day for schools to open their doors again. Saturday, the 10th annual Back 2 School event had more school supplies than previous years.

The lines at the event were just as long as the lines at Disneyland to get free materials and services for school. Event organizers say some parents were even camping out the night before just to get a good spot in line.

“I got a backpack, pencils, a pouch…and a lot of other stuff I can’t name it all,” said Malykie Campbell, soon to be 5th grader.

Grades K-12 were all welcome, and well prepared for school. Some were even prepared for after high school.

“I’m going to try to become a nurse, that’s the plan right now,” said Keisha McCoy, going into senior year of high school.

But going back to school sometimes isn’t the greatest of times for some. That’s why a group of girls dressed up as Disney characters to keep up back to school spirits for the kids.

Kids going back to school also got to take advantage of free dental and medical screenings.
