Evacuation order lifted in Teton County, Idaho

Teton County, Idaho Sheriff Tony Liford has lifted a Level 1 Evacuation Notice for people living near the Tie Canyon fire.

Teton Basin District Ranger Jay Pence also announced the Caribou-Targhee National Forest is reducing the size of an area closure. . Murphy Creek Trailhead and the Powerline Trail to Pole Canyon are now open. Pine Creek Campground is also open. Black Grove Loop Trail remains closed to allow fire equipment safe access as they are still using the road as a primary access point. The new Area Closure Order and Map is located here .

About 50 people attended a public meeting with fire manager Dave Easton in Victor Thursday night.

As of Friday morning, the fire totalled 1,031 acres and was 81 percent contained. 405 people are assigned to the fire.

A Red Flag warning remains in effect for gusty winds of close to 30 miles per hour Friday afternoon.

Fire crews are working deeper in from the fire’s edge on hotspots and extinguishing flare-ups.

An excavator is working on the northwest portion of the fire to repair dozer lines put in place during fire suppression efforts. Trees will be pushed or dragged across the lines to conceal the tracks and help restore stream channel flow and natural drainage. The work should help prevent soil erosion.

There are no fire restrictions in place on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, but Teton County is enforcing a ban on open burning.
